A London Affair by Jan Ellis ā¤ļø a book review šŸ“š

May 2, 2016

If you have read my past blogs you will know I enjoy reading books set in far away cities. I love to be transported away to other places where I can experience and imagine, envisage myself there. I am especially keen on books set in Paris or other parts of France.

Jan Ellis is one of my favourite authors. What I love about her books is that they are so well written you just dive straight in and find yourself in this persons life.

You don’t need to read a few chapters to get into the story or find out about the characters. The books are so naturally put together that you are transported away from the very beginning.

The Book –

A London Affair is exactly this, I was transported into Kate’s life from the word go. And what is extra special about this book is that it’s set in a city very close to my heart…London.

Kate lives with her mum and dad outside the big city. Country living has never suited Kate. Deciding not to go to university, she has ended up working for a cheese-maker in a small county town. But her life changes dramatically when she leaves home to take up a job in a super-smart deli and restaurant in Chelsea. One of London’s trendiest areas.

She has a new job and new flat-mates, including the fun Imogen and her long-suffering boyfriend, Freddy. Kate thinks she is destined to be single forever but Immy has other ideas.

This is a fun romance that takes the reader from the King’s Road to Cornwall with a really interesting group of characters.

Verdict-

I finished A London Affair in one sitting.

Kings Road in Chelsea is my favourite part of London with it’s gorgeous shops, wonderful eateries and ‘Sloane rangers’. So I was super excited to be reading a book set in places so familiar to me. It is so nice to be able to picture the exact place in your mind as you read.

I loved Kate straight away. In a way she reminded me of my younger self; head strong, determined and a tiny bit stubborn.

The book flowed so easily and naturally, as Jan’s characters always seem to, I felt like I was watching a programme on the television.

You will love finding out what happens to Kate, I can’t give too much away but it will never be boring or predictable.

Another lovely book by Jan Ellis, reminding me again that life can suprise you in the nicest possible way when you least expect it! x
