Minty Ayran πŸ’š a refreshingly healthy drink for Spring

April 1, 2016

I am writing to you from a very sunny Antalya. It is still definitely too chilly to swim, although I’ve heard some tourists have been seen venturing into the freezing cold waters of the Mediterranean.

Flowers of all colours are blossoming and there is a feeling a Spring in the air. With the sunshine comes salads, fruity desserts and cold drinks to refresh and cool us inside and out.

In Turkey a favourite drink amongst the old and young is Ayran. A super healthy and refreshing beverage perfect for cooling down in the heat.

The traditional variety is just enjoyed plain – full fat plain yogurt, a little water, ice and enjoy. Nowadays there is another scrumptious variety, where fresh mint leaves are added to the mixture and are all blended together with ice to form a gorgeously green glass of goodness. No sugar, no artificial anything, just plain yogurt, mint and water.

Here is the super simple recipe, try it once and you will be hooked for life!

Ingredients – (Makes enough for 2)

  • 4 heaped tablespoons of full fat plain yogurt
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of ice
  • 6 springs of fresh mint leaves
  • a little sea salt to taste

Method –

  • Simply place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend up until a liquid is left. Enjoy straight away.

So yummy, so nutritious and so good!
