Delicious healthy snacks made from green peas & rice 💚

February 19, 2016

My boys love crisps. They have a daily packet in their lunch boxes. I always try to go for the oven baked healthier variety.

I don’t know whether it’s the fact that they are practical, in a grab a little snack bag and go. The saltiness, the tanginess, making them the perfect accompaniment to sandwiches at lunchtimes. But it is because of this indispensibility that I am always on the look out for the ‘healthier’ crisp.

I always look at Japanese options when looking for healthier alternatives to current classics. The Japanese diet is one I have always admired for it’s sheer brilliance is using plain, everyday ingredients, and transforming them into the most delicious yet super healthy meals and snacks.

The Product –

Yushoi is a Japanese brand which has produced a super healthy alternative to crisps. Yushoi snapea rice sticks are a yummy baked savoury snack made using green peas and rice.

Here are the facts –

  • Each serving boasts less than 99calories
  • It is high in fibre and a source of protein
  • Nut and dairy free
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans
  • No artificial colours, flavours or MSG

Some great flavours to choose from –

  • Soy and balsamic vinegar
  • Smoked salt and Szechuan pepper
  • Sweet chilli and Lemon
  • Lightly Salted

Verdict –

I think that in the modern, fast paced world we live in, snacks we can consume on the go are ever popular. When these snacks are healthy and tasty then they are a winner in my book.

I am a firm believer that in order to stay fit and healthy we need three main meals, with healthy snacks in between to prevent snacking on over sweet and unhealthy nibbles.

Yushoi Snapea rice sticks are very yummy indeed, and they definitely fill the gap in a very healthy way. They are melt in your mouth light and the flavours are very original. My boys did enjoy the ‘Lightly Salted’ but were not so keen to try the Sweet Chilli, but my younger son who is very adventurous with flavours said he loved the Salt and Szechuan Pepper. With kids I always believe it’s best to let them try first.

You never know what they will like best!

And if you are wondering what Yushoi actually translates into – Yushu means ‘excellent’ and Shoi means ‘act or deed’.

Yushoi snacks can be bought at Tesco, Morrisons, The Cooperative, WHSmiths, Whole Foods, Selfridges and online from Amazon UK and Ocado.

Always be adventurous with food! You might be very pleasantly surprised ❤️
