The most scrumptious avocado toast I have ever tasted! 💚 Just add one special spice!

December 23, 2015

If anyone of you lovely people follow my Instagram account, @motherinlondon, you will know if my addiction to all things Le Pain Quotidien!

For those of you who are not familiar with Le Pain Quotidien it is a restaurant chain which originates in Belgium. It serves the most delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, or even just a frothy cappucino served in their signature bowls. A real treat for when we visit the city with kids or without.

‘Le PQ,’ as I like to call it, is a firm favourite with my friends and family. We love the soft boiled eggs, the tart tatin is to die for and the other day for the first time ever I tried their avocado toast! Oh my goodness!!! It is sooo good!!! I just had to try out their recipe at home and it was just as yummy, so I had to share their recipe with you all.

My take on the Le PQ avocado toast

The secret ingredient in the scrumptious Le PQ avocado toast is cumin! I would never ever have thought of adding cumin to avocados but the combination is just mouthwateringly delicious, it totally works. And as cumin is a super healthy spice it’s also very good for you. Just genius!

The cumin is used to season the avocado toast in what is called the ‘Citrus Cumin Salt.’ Here is the recipe for this magical salt –

Citrus Cumin Salt

  • 1/4 cup coarse Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • Lemon Zest
  • Red pepper flakes

All you have to do is mix all the ingredients together and sprinkle over the avocado toast as you would normal salt. The cumin and red pepper flakes add an unbelievable tanginess to the salt.

Le Pain Quotidien Avocado Toast Recipe – (serves 2)

  • 2-4 slices of wholewheat toast
  • 2 Ripe avocados
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Citrus Cumin Salt

Toast the bread until crispy. In a bowl mash the avocado with a fork, add lemon juice and black pepper. Spread the avocado over the bread and sprinkle over the Citrus Cumin Salt.

Enjoy with a large mug of green tea and be prepared for your taste buds to be tantalised!

Thanks Le PQ for the great tip! 😘
