French Kisses by Jan Ellis πŸ“š a book review β€οΈ

November 30, 2015

If you are familiar with my blog you will know about my love for all things French. So you can imagine my excitement when I came across a novel by one of my favourite author’s that was set in France. Rural France in fact, even more enticing and exciting!

The Story –

Rachel Thompson is the main character of the story. She has a wealthy husband, a successful career as an artist, and a to-die-for house in the middle of rural France.  That is until her husband Michael hits 40, discovers his inner love-rat and runs off with the kids’ young, skinny dance teacher!

Rachel is stronger than she thinks, sge decides to ignore her friends’ advice to move back to England with her children, and instead decides to turn their crumbly stone farmhouse into a bijou hotel.

As Rachel strives to create a new life for herself, friends and family rally around to give her a Christmas and New Year with plenty of surprises. With help – and some hindrance – from her loved ones, Rachel transforms their home into a cosy guest house for an eclectic collection of visitors, including Josh Perry, a handsome American academic.

Although Rachel is getting plenty of attention from local admirers, her husband Michael is never far away…

Verdict

With Christmas only a few weeks away and everything getting very festive the idea of a beautiful farmhouse in rural France at wintertime is just wonderful.

As with her other books, Jan Ellis writes so naturally I am transported to the beautiful French countryside to this farmhouse which Rachel is trying to transform into a hotel. Thanks to her strong character and love of life dealing with all the changes happening in her life is not as difficult as it once seemed.

As a mother with kids I think what Rachel goes through is any woman’s nightmare scenario. But life is life and you have to just get on with things, and Rachel’s strength and perseverance is admirable. Romances, new experiences and a little joie de vivre is what it’s all about!

A definite book to snuggle up with by the fire, I finished it in one sitting. Also a perfect Christmas gift.
