Homemade Apple & Pear Crumble ðŸðŸŽðŸ’›

November 13, 2015

It is almost winter time, the leaves are almost all off the trees, its getting dark much earlier than usual and there is a chill in the air. There is nothing nicer than coming to a warm cosy home after a long walk through the woods with the kids and enjoying a lovely roast meal followed by a hot homemade dessert straight from the oven.

I’ve always loved fruity desserts, it’s that extra bit of natural sweetness which make the dessert special. Last weekend I made my boys a very British dessert – ‘Apple & Pear Crumble’ – but this scrumptious dessert was extra special as it contained very little sugar, was sweetened instead with gooey honey and the topping was made extra crunchy and healthy with sugar free seeds, nuts & dried fruit & granola! Yummy!

Ingredients

– 2 eating apples – peeled & sliced

– 4 ripe pears – sliced

– 5 tablespoons honey

– 2 tablespoons light brown sugar

– 125grams butter

– 150grams wholemeal flour

– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

– 1 teaspoon cinnamon

– 100grams Healthy granola – filled with linseed, oats, pumpkinseeds, dried cranberries, raisins – homemade or store bought

Method

– Preheat oven 180 degrees centigrade.

– Butter a medium sized deep oven proof dish.

– Place the sliced fruit in a bowl, pour over honey and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, mix well and place into the buttered ovenproof dish.

– Bake in the oven for 10minutes to soften the fruit.

– While the fruit is in the oven, place flour & butter in a bowl, rub together with fingertips until crumbs are formed. Mix in the remaining sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and granola. Mix well.

– Remove fruit from the oven and spoon over the crumbly mixture until all the fruit is covered.

– Place in the oven for 30minutes.

This dessert is so gorgeous your home will smell buttery, honeyey & cinnamony. We enjoyed it as it is, with a crunchy top and a juicy gooey filling. You could add custard, cream or ice cream if you wished.

Enjoy! xxx
