In the news at the moment the new fashion is cutting out sugar completely. Something  which I follow and definitely believe is the way forward to achieving weight loss and overall health. Celebrity chefs are leading the way forward with sugar free recipes and sugar alternatives.

When you have children in the house it is not always easy to find substitutions for sugar which the kids will enjoy. In my household honey is a loved sugar replacement, but I am always on the lookout for other natural alternatives, because honey can also have high levels of sugar.

Here is a super healthy recipe for Banana bread where I have used Beloved Date Nectar as the sole sweetener-

Banana Bread sweetened with Date Nectar


– 200g spelt flour 

– 2 tsp baking powder

– 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

– 2 tsp ground cinnamon

– 50g butter

– 4 large bananas (mashed)

– 30ml Beloved Date Nectar

– 2 eggs


Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarb and cinnamon into a bowl. Add the butter in small blobs and rub in with your fingertips. 

Mash up the bananas, leaving some bits lumpy. Mix with the date nectar. Whisk the eggs and add to the banana/syrup and mix well.

Make a well in the flour and pour in the banana mixture. Combine well and transfer to a greased loaf tin. Bake in the oven for about 50 minutes.

A very healthy, tasty & moorish cake your whole family will enjoy!
