Honey & Oat Dark Rye homemade bread πŸž

June 3, 2015

Bread making is a skill I have always wanted to master. I have friends with breadmakers and I would love one of those, but I wanted to try and make a homemade loaf the old fashioned way first.

Using my new favourite Marriage’s flour I set out to find a simple recipe to make some healthy bread using Dark Rye flour. Then on the Marriage’s Dark Rye flour packaging I saw a lovely recipe for bread using my all time favourite super food ingredients- honey, oats & rye! I was going to make this bread!

I like recipes which have simple ingredients, things you already have in your kitchen. This recipe is just that, simple to understand and super easy to make.

The results were just scrumptious – the aroma of freshly baked bread with hints of mixed spice filled our home, the well balanced sweetness of the honey and sourness of the rye, the substantial meaty crumb and thin glossy crust was just heavenly. A great bread to try as an amateur bread maker. My boys had a large slice with their vegetable soup, then another slice with butter & jam smothered on. Just far too moorish!

Here is the super yummy recipe taken from the Marriage’s flour packaging-

Honey & Oats Rye Bread –

Ingredients-

– 200gr Marriage’s Dark Rye flour

– 300gr Strong White Bread flour

– 7gr sachet of dried fast action yeast

– 25gr oats

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 2 teaspoon mixed spice

– 6 tablespoons honey

– 250ml lukewarm water

Method-

– Preheat oven at 180 degrees C

– Mix together the flours, yeast, oats, salt and mixed spice in a large bowl.

– Stir in the honey and 250ml lukewarm water to form a dough. You can do this in a stand mixer with a dough hook or by hand.

– Knead on a floured surface for five to 10 minutes until smooth, then place in an oiled bowl, cover and leave to prove in a warm place for one hour.

– Knock back the dough and shape into a flat oval approximately 22cm long.

– Place on a baking tray and leave in a warm place for one hour.

– Using a serrated knife, lightly make five cuts on the top of the shaped dough.

– Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden.

This bread is just so scrumptious! My boys enjoyed several slices topped with butter and strawberry jam! Yum!

Enjoy! xxx
