Homemade burgers! Perfect for the grill or BBQ❤️ 🍔

It is May, the weather is warming up! My family and I enjoyed a super duper barbecue at the weekend and even dined al fresco. It’s raining again today, but you can easily enjoy these delicious home made burgers grilled in your oven grill.

These homemade burgers are so easy to prepare, why not make a big batch then freeze them ready for the weekend?

They are so tasty my boys gobbled up a few each at the barbecue yesterday! What gives them a special flavour is the cumin powder. My mother and I use this delicious herb a lot in our cooking. It is a mild tasting herb used a lot in Indian and Middle Eastern cooking. It is a great source of Iron, Manganese and other minerals. One study found that cumin is protective against memory loss and the damaging affects of stress on the body! So it not only makes your dishes scrumptious it’s also good for you!


So here is another great recipe from my talented mother. Tried, tested and just pure goodness.

Ingredients- (makes enough for four)

– 500 grams lean beef minced meat 

– 1 large onion (finely diced)

– 1 teaspoonful dried cumin powder

– Sea salt / ground black pepper 

– 2 tablespoons wholemeal flour

– 1 tablespoon dried breadcrumbs 

– 1 large free range egg

– 1 teaspoon olive oil


– Place the minced meat, diced onions, egg, flour, breadcrumbs and a little oil in a large bowl. Sprinkle in the cumin powder, sea salt & pepper.

– Now the fun part! Roll up your sleeves and wash your hands. With one hand mix all the ingredients until it makes one big gorgeous burger. Knead in the bowl for a few minutes as you would bread dough.

– Next with both hands form medium sized burger patties. Pat the tops to flatten slightly. 

– Place in a glass dish ready to grill later. Or in silver foil ready to freeze.

– Grill in the oven or on the barbecue until cooked and browned.

Serve in a wholemeal burger bun with a slice of cheese, Dijon mustard and a little tomato sauce, or just enjoy as it is!
